What's Included in the plans

  • Assembly and detail drawings (PDF)
    • Main assembly drawing
    • Detail drawings for rear support brackets (basic wood construction)
    • Detail drawings for baffle (driver and horn cutouts)
  • 3D CAD files for horn (STL file format)
    • The horn gets 3D printed and installed into the baffle
    • The horn consists of x2 pieces
      • Horn mouth file 270mm wide x 232mm tall x 35mm deep
      • Horn throat file 120mm diameter x 55mm tall
    • The horn mouth and throat piece are to be glued together
      • There are locating pins facilitating perfect alignment during gluing
    • The horn is the exact same horn flare geometry as the 1695
    • The horn is perfectly flush with the baffle preventing any edge diffraction
  • Crossover Schematic
    • The crossover can be constructed with high quality parts for about $300 USD for the pair of speakers
    • Schematic includes suggested component brand and model numbers for all components

Sound Characteristics

  • Medium bass dynamics on percussion
  • Great bass resolution (especially on bass guitar)
  • Perceived soundstage scale or size: Medium
  • Excellent soundstage depth and width
  • Excellent treble dynamics
  • Vocal region is rich and warm due to 10" Scanspeak Mid-Woofer

Design Features

  • 18mm thick baltic birch plywood design
    • The drawings allow for easily making the baffle thicker (ie.24mm thick) with no change in the other drawing dimensions or cut angles.
  • Can be made from solid hardwood
    • We suggest walnut, oak, or birch for it's inherent low internal stress. This prevents warpage after cutting
  • 1.40" SB Audience 65CDN-T
    • The enlarged rear chamber is not required for this project due to the 1.2kHz crossover point. The larger rear chamber is only required for projects that cross at 600Hz or lower.
  • 10" Scanspeak woofer using SD-1 motor technology for low distortion
  • 15" SB Audience 15OB350 woofer (designed for open baffle)
  • 95dB Sensitivity in-room  (91dB anechoic)
  • 2.5-way configuration (180Hz LR4 + 1.2kHz xover 1st order)
