FAQ (DIY)
Do you offer design or consulting services?
We now only offer design services for variations on our existing DIY Plans. We no longer offer Business to Business design, consulting, or licensing services.
If you are a DIY enthusiast and you would like a custom design based on one of our existing plans or CAD Files, please reach out for a design quote.
Can you tell me if a particular woofer will work in one of your bass cabinet plans?
Due to the high volume of emails we cannot simulate your specific bass driver in one of our cabinets, we suggest using VituixCAD or WinISD to simulate the bass cabinet and driver combination yourself. There are many resources available such as Ai or our own Joseph Crowe DIY Facebook Group. We would be happy to design a bass cabinet for you for a fee, please contact us for a design quote.
Will my compression driver fit one of your horns?
For general information horn fitment, check out my blog post where I go over this topic here.

Do you ship globally?
Yes! We routinely ship worldwide. Please contact use for a shipping quote.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping typically ranges from$200 to $1,000 USD for our flagship speakers.
How are the speakers shipped?
Speakers are crated in custom-designed plywood crates built in SolidWorks to ensure safe transport.
Features include:
- 2x2 wood framing with 3/8" plywood
- Fully lined with 1" Styrofoam
- Speaker is stretch-wrapped to protect against abrasion
We also assist with logistics like stairways, doorways, or narrow hallways. Crates can include wheels if needed.
Can you reduce VAT or import taxes?
Yes. We can remove the design service portion from the invoice, reducing the declared value by25–50%, which helps lower taxes or duties upon delivery.
Do you have speakers ready to ship?
We carry limited inventory viewable on our Inventory page. These are typically extra pairs made during production runs.
What is the lead time for custom orders?
- Medium-sized projects: 2–3 months
- Flagship speakers: Up to 6 months
What happens after I place an order?
You’ll receive regular email updates with photos and progress from our shop.
What's the best amplifier for your speakers?
We typically recommend tube amplification between 3–20 WPC. Our own amps and preamps are launching in 2026. Until then, we suggest:
- Elekit (Japan)
- AN Kits (Canada)
- Sun Audio (Japan)
- Alan Eaton (USA)
Can you build speakers using my vintage drivers?
No. We only use new components to ensure quality and reliability. Older drivers (Altec, JBL, TAD) often suffer from fatigue or voice coil damage, especially under high SPLs or poor servicing.
Do new compression drivers sound as good as vintage ones?
Yes. Modern designs offer:
- Lower distortion (e.g., copper shorting rings)
- Advanced diaphragms and suspensions
- Clean, extended treble — even without exotic materials like beryllium
Why don’t you use more exotic compression driver such as TAD?
We’ve decided after extensive testing, measurement, and listening that we can achieve better results by carefully building our own compression drivers which include proprietary design features which drastically lower distortion, especially in the upper treble.
Do your speakers sound shouty?
Not at all. Our designs are built from the ground up for home listening — not adapted from PA systems.
They have:
- Zero horn coloration
- Highly optimized crossovers
- Excellent soundstage and imaging
Why use horns and compression drivers?
After testing domes, AMTs, ribbons, and planars —nothing matches the clarityof a well-designed horn + compression driver combo. We also produce our own compression drivers for our flagship products.
Will you help with final setup?
Yes, I offer on-site setup and calibration in your home regardless of your location. I love to travel and meet new people! Our speakers include adjustment points in the crossover to custom tune the sound to your specific preferences. Age related hearing loss can be accounted for, along with room acoustics.
Can I become a dealer?
We follow a direct-to-customer model and have no options for dealer networks.
